Trekking Adrai: What to Carry and How to Reach Khireshwar

24 Aug 2026 · GoRaahi Adventures

Adrai is a forest trek, not a fort trek, and the packing and logistics reflect that — you're preparing for mud, water, dense undergrowth and no trail infrastructure, not for a marked path and a summit. Here's what actually matters.

Getting to Khireshwar

Khireshwar village, near Malshej Ghat, is the starting point. From Mumbai it's roughly 140--150 km via Kalyan and the Malshej road, about three to four hours. From Pune, roughly 120--130 km via Junnar. The last stretch to the village is a narrow road that requires care in the rains.

Forest permissions

Adrai falls within a forest area, and entry permits are mandatory. Trekking without authorisation is not allowed. Guided treks through established operators typically include the permits; if you're going independently, check and arrange in advance.

What to carry

Sturdy shoes with serious grip — the trail is muddy, rocky and wet for most of the year. Quick-dry clothing (never cotton in monsoon). A rain poncho or waterproof jacket. At least two litres of water. Energy food. A dry bag for phone and documents. Leech socks or long socks tucked into trousers in monsoon — leeches are part of the forest and a minor nuisance with preparation, a miserable surprise without it. Mosquito repellent. A small first-aid kit.

What you won't find on the trail

No shops, no shelters, no phone signal for much of the route, no marked trail signs. The forest is genuinely wild and the path relies on local knowledge. This is the main reason a guide isn't optional here — it's a safety requirement.

Pack for the jungle, not the tourist trail. On a GoRaahi Adrai trek, we handle the permits, the guide and the route — you bring the shoes and the willingness to get lost in the best forest in the Sahyadris.
