Trekking Korigad: What to Carry and How to Reach from Lonavala and Pune

20 Sep 2026 · GoRaahi Adventures

Korigad is one of the most accessible forts from Pune and Lonavala — a short drive, an easy climb, and a fort that gives you more than most treks twice its length. Here is how to get there, what to bring, and how to pair it with nearby attractions for a fuller day.

Getting there

Peth Shahpur, the base village, is about 18 km south of Lonavala and roughly 80 km from Pune. From Lonavala, the road passes through the Aamby Valley entrance area. From Pune, drive via the expressway to Lonavala and turn south. The last stretch is a narrow village road but passable year-round. There is no direct train access; you need a vehicle from Lonavala or Pune.

What to carry

Comfortable walking shoes with grip — the stone staircase is easy but slippery in monsoon. One to two litres of water. Packed snacks. Sun protection for the exposed plateau. In monsoon: a rain layer (you will get wet on the staircase), quick-dry clothing, and a dry bag for your phone. The trek is short enough that heavy packing is unnecessary and a big bag is just weight you do not need.

On the fort

No shops, no food stalls, no water on the fort. The lakes are scenic, not for drinking. Basic food and chai are available in Peth Shahpur before and after the climb. Cash only in the village.

Combining with nearby attractions

Aamby Valley sits at the fort’s foothills. Pawna Lake, one of the best lakeside camping spots near Pune, is a short drive away. Tung Fort and Tikona Fort are in the same cluster and pair well for a full day of fort-trekking. A weekend that combines Korigad with any of these makes a richer trip than a single fort alone.
