Most groups that trek to Nanemachi discover, partway through the day, that there is a second waterfall nearby — Satsada, less famous but equally atmospheric, accessible from the same base area on the same trails. Doing both in one monsoon outing turns a good day into a great one and justifies the long drive from the city twice over.
Start early, walk the forest trail to Nanemachi’s 400-foot cascade and its blue pool. Give the pool the time it deserves — swim if the current allows, eat by the water, let the spray and the forest noise settle into your body. The pool’s colour shifts through the morning, and the extra thirty minutes you spend watching it change are never wasted. Most groups spend one to two hours at the falls before heading back to the base area.
Satsada is a shorter, less-visited waterfall accessible from the same base area, often included in guided treks as a second stop. It is smaller than Nanemachi but sits in equally dense forest, with its own pool and its own atmosphere. Visiting it after the main falls extends the day without adding real difficulty, and the contrast between the two — Nanemachi’s towering cascade and Satsada’s more intimate setting — is part of the pleasure.
Drive from Pune or Mumbai in the early morning, arriving at the base village by 8 or 9 a.m. Trek to Nanemachi first — about an hour each way plus time at the pool. Return to the base, continue to Satsada, and finish by early afternoon. Eat a home-cooked thali in the village. Start the drive back by 3 or 4 p.m. to reach the city before dark. It is a long day — roughly twelve hours with the driving — but the two waterfalls and the forest between them make it one of the most complete monsoon outings in the Sahyadris.
