Harishchandragad Fort Trek

1 D Ancient caves, the Konkan Kada cliff, and a fort older than memory
Add a hero photo in admin

Harishchandragad is one of the great forts of the Sahyadris — and one of its oldest. The ruins trace back to the 6th century, through Shaiva cave-temples carved in the medieval period, a Shiva Linga standing waist-deep in ice-cold water inside the Kedareshwar Cave, and the Harishchandreshwar Temple whose stone-work has weathered a thousand monsoons. But the reason people keep coming back is the Konkan Kada — a sheer, concave cliff that drops into the Konkan valley with a view so vast it bends the horizon. In the monsoon, mist rises from the valley floor and swirls around the overhang; on clear mornings, you might catch an Indravajra — a full circular rainbow around your own shadow. The trek from Pachnai village is a well-marked 3 km climb through forest, moderate enough for fit beginners but rewarding enough to draw regulars back season after season.
