Adrai Jungle Trek: The Sahyadri's Hidden Rainforest

24 Aug 2026 · GoRaahi Adventures

Most Sahyadri treks end at a fort or a summit. Adrai ends deep inside a forest where sunlight barely reaches the floor. Tucked near Khireshwar village in the Malshej Ghat region, this jungle trek is the Sahyadris at their most wild and least domesticated — dense tropical canopy, river crossings, hidden caves, shepherd trails, and a 1,200-foot waterfall that announces itself by sound long before you see it.

What the trek involves

The trail starts from Khireshwar village and winds through dense forest along old paths once used by shepherds and villagers. It's not a climb to a peak — it's a walk into the belly of the Sahyadris, passing through streams, under canopy so thick the path stays shaded even at noon, and across terrain that changes from muddy track to rocky scramble to riverbed. The highlight is the massive waterfall visible from within the forest — a multi-tiered cascade that drops roughly 1,200 feet, best seen during and just after the monsoon.

Why it feels different from a fort trek

On a fort trek, the destination is above you. On Adrai, you're inside it. The forest is the destination — the sound of water everywhere, the bird calls, the sudden clearings where the canopy opens onto a cliff face or a valley view. It's the most immersive, least "touristy" trek in the Malshej region, and it's gaining popularity precisely because it feels genuinely wild.

When to go

Monsoon (July--September) is when the forest is at its most alive — waterfalls in full flow, the canopy dripping, the streams running high. Post-monsoon (October--December) retains the green with better footing and clearer trails. Summer is possible but the waterfalls are thin and the forest is drier.

Who it suits

Adrai is moderate in difficulty but demands comfort with uneven, often wet terrain and river crossings. It's beginner-friendly with a guide, but not a paved walkway — expect to get muddy, wet and thoroughly lost in the forest in the best possible way.

Adrai is the Sahyadri trek for people who want the forest, not the fort. Walk into it with GoRaahi — guided, safe, and as deep into the jungle as the trail goes.
