Korigad is the fort that says yes to everyone. Standing at about 3,050 feet near Peth Shahpur, just 18 km south of Lonavala, it is one of the easiest Sahyadri forts to climb: a wide, solid stone staircase leads almost all the way to the top, the plateau is flat and spacious, and in monsoon two lakes fill inside the fort walls, reflecting the sky and the surrounding hills in a way that makes the whole place look like a painting someone forgot to sign. It is the fort for people who think they cannot do a fort trek, and the one that proves them wrong.
The trail starts from Peth Shahpur village and meets a well-built stone staircase — wide, solid, manageable for families with children. In monsoon, rainwater from the plateau above flows down this staircase in a continuous shallow stream, turning the climb into a gentle walk through cascading water. It is the softest, friendliest version of the Sahyadri waterfall-trek experience: nothing like the demanding waterfall staircases on Visapur or Harihar, but beautiful in the same family. The total climb takes about an hour.
The Korai Devi temple at the entrance — the goddess who gives the fort its name. Six cannons, including the large Lakshmi Tof at the western bastion, still pointing outward. Two freshwater lakes that fill in monsoon and stay through winter, their surfaces mirroring the sky and the fort walls. Well-preserved bastions and a chor darwaja (thief’s door) on the southern side. And panoramic views of Aamby Valley, Tung Fort, Tikona Fort, Lohagad and Pawna Dam — a ring of Sahyadri landmarks visible from one plateau.
Beginners, families, children, senior trekkers, anyone who wants a genuine fort experience without a demanding climb. Monsoon is the most beautiful season — the staircase cascade, the fort lakes full, the plateau deep green. Post-monsoon to winter for clear views and pleasant weather. More experienced trekkers can combine Korigad with Tung or Tikona for a fuller day.
