Neer Garh Waterfall: A Short Forest Walk Out of Rishikesh

19 Oct 2026 · GoRaahi Adventures

It starts as a road, then a path, then a set of rough stone steps through the forest. You hear the water long before you see it. Then, round a bend, there it is: a cascade spilling over rocks into a clear, blue-green pool, with another one above it, and another above that.

Neer Garh is one of those places that rewards a little effort with a lot of calm.

Getting there

The waterfall is a few kilometres out of Rishikesh, off the road beyond the Lakshman Jhula area. From the road, a walk of roughly a kilometre or so climbs through forest to the falls, with steps and uneven sections. There is usually a small entry fee. Most people reach the first and second pools; the upper tiers are quieter.

What it's like in winter

In December the water is lower and clearer than after the monsoon, and very cold. You probably won't want to swim, but the pools are at their most beautiful: still, transparent and glowing turquoise in the late-morning sun. The forest is dry and the walk is pleasant, not sweaty.

Tips for the trail

  • Wear shoes with grip; rocks near the water are slippery.
  • Go in the morning to avoid crowds.
  • Carry water and a small snack, and bring your rubbish back.
  • Don't climb on wet rocks for photos. It isn't worth it.

Make a morning of it

Pair Neer Garh with a slow breakfast in Rishikesh and a walk across the river. It's an easy, restorative half-day, and a lovely contrast to the adrenaline of rafting.
